- What is the WRAS certification?
WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) certification is a safety certification for British residential drinking water system products issued by WRAS Ltd, the certification center of the British Water Consultancy Program. The certification standards are derived from the requirements of the Water Supply Regulations 1999 in England and Wales, the Water Act 2004 in Scotland, and the Water Regulations 2004 in Northern Ireland. Products that have obtained WRAS certification aim to ensure that local governments and users are confident that the product will not cause excessive consumption, abuse, improper use, or pollution of drinking water, thus enabling them to directly enter the British market. At the same time, WRAS is also accepted by the governments or health institutions in many other countries outside the UK, such as Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, and is directly used in residential drinking water systems.
- WRAS Certification Types
The WRAS certification content includes material certification and product certification.
(1) Material Certification
The testing scope for material certification includes: water supply pipes, faucets, valve components, rubber products, plastics, and all materials in contact with water, and materials that may be used to manufacture related equipment must comply with the standards of British BS6920 or BS5750 PART.
If non-metallic materials meet the requirements of BS6920:2000 (by observing the impact of the product on water quality to determine its suitability for water used by people), they can be certified by WRAS.
(2) Product Certification
The mechanical performance of the product is tested according to various European and British standards and management authority regulations for the product type.
The Intertek Industrial and Building Materials Laboratory in Guangzhou, China, is the only laboratory authorized by WRAS for certification in valves, pipe fittings, and bathroom products.
The Intertek Guangzhou Laboratory tests water valves, pipe fittings to prove that they comply with international standards, which are recognized and approved for the water supply industry.
